Community Asset Competition

Swimming Pool wins Scoop Hill Wind Farm, Community Asset Competition!

Our winning community asset idea is a swimming pool for the Moffat community and the surrounding area.

We would like to thank all our entrants for their amazing ideas. We had a brilliant response to the competition from all age groups.

The range of community asset ideas was very diverse, covering:

  • Leisure-based assets.
  • Retail buildings.
  • Entertainment facilities.
  • Cultural assets/statues.
  • Tourist-based facilities.

Further consultation and engagement from CWL will follow, prior to any application being submitted. The swimming poll will be subject to its own planning application and will be developed if the Scoop Hill Community Wind Farm is approved.

The swimming pool idea was the most popular asset that was entered into the competition. It was regularly cited by entrants that Moffat residents have to currently travel ~30 minutes to the nearest swimming pool.

Swimming is an essential life skill and one that is potentially life saving. A swimming pool would benefit residents of all ages and is associated with positive physical and mental benefits such as reducing stress and keeping fit.

A swimming pool has a historic sentiment in Moffat as it was previously a popular spa town. Visitors would come to Moffat to bath and enjoy the sulphurous and saline waters which were said to have healing properties.

Thank you for all the entries and ideas!

Our winner of the VOLT electric mountain e-bike is 12-year-old Lauren Gourley, a soon to be S1 pupil at Moffat Academy. Lauren's entry included an incredible illustration which encapsulated the swimming pool asset brilliantly and stood out to our Community Benefit Director Diane Wood.

CWL would also like to thank Gordon Burgess of Annandale cycles for providing the competition prize.
