Our Commitment to Communities

 

Community Windpower (CWL) is proud to have donated over £8 million to host communities since 2006. We are committed to maintaining strong working relationships with the local host communities, to provide communities with lasting economic, social and environmental benefits. 


We have explored a number of options for community assets and funding as part of the community benefits programme. More details on the community benefits for Scoop Hill Community Wind Farm can be found in the Scoop Hill Additional Information 'Commitment To Communities' report.


Community Funding


 

CWL is wholly committed to fulfilling community obligations once planning permission has been obtained. We work closely with our local host communities to provide significant economic, educational and social benefits for the lifetime of the wind farm.


We work closely with communities to deliver on our promise to make positive 

social, economic and environmental change over the lifetime of our wind farms.

Below you can find some examples of what we have accomplished recently within the local host communities of Scoop Hill Community Wind Farm and further afield at our operational wind farms across Scotland.

£1 million Energy Fund in East Lothian


In December 2022, CWL, in partnership with East Lothian Council and Advice Direct Scotland, launched a £1 million energy fund to help vulnerable residents with their winter energy bills.


The fund provided assistance to over 1,400 vulnerable individuals and families across East Lothian

£300,000 Dalry Parish Boundary Trust Energy Fund


In partnership between CWL and the Dalry Parish Boundary Trust, a £300,000 energy fund has been established to provide assistance to vulnerable people and families in Dalry

Funding for Annandale Community Transport Services (ACTS)


CWL is delighted to be supporting ACTS through a donation  to provide clothing for volunteers, ID cards and a new printer for the Lockerbie office.


ACTG operate a fleet of need-specific transport vehicles that assist people with disabilities and the elderly people to attend appointments and make family visits.


Supporting local businesses, traders and charities is fundamental to CWL's community benefit funding and will remain so throughout the planning, construction and operation of Scoop Hill Wind Farm.

2 Year Sponsorship for Moffat Rugby Club!


CWL was delighted to sponsor the Moffat Rugby Club annual 10s tournament in 2023 by donating £750 towards the running the annual competition as well as agreeing funding for the 2024 tournament!


The annual 10s tournament kicks off the annual playing season and CWL is committed to supporting local sports teams as part of out Community Benefit funding.

Developing the Young Workforce (Dumfries and Galloway) Work Ready Days

DYW Dumfries and Galloway works in partnership with business and education to create and promote opportunities for young people. CWL regularly attend career days throughout Dumfries and Galloway delivering presentations that highlight the green job opportunities within the renewable industry across Scotland.


As part of our commitment to supporting education, Community Windpower also works in partnership with several colleges to provide Student Placement Schemes throughout the year. These placements are designed to provide students with an understanding of the whole onshore wind energy industry.

CWL Partnership with Let's Get Sporty

CWL is continuing its partnership with Let's Get Sport for a 4th year running providing £6,380 to deliver 10 weeks of free physical education to almost 370 pupils from Applegarth and Hutton, Beattock, Johnstonebridge and Moffat primary schools.



The sessions help children develop an understanding of the importance of taking care of their physical health. This year the pupils will take part in a variety of sports including rugby, hockey, football, basketball, tennis, netball and athletics.


CWL have now donated more than £19,000 over the past 4 years to deliver similar sessions to 1,700 local school children across 10 schools to date.
