Dear Energy Consents Unit and Councillor(s),

Subject: Support for Scoop Hill Community Wind Farm (ref: ECU00000533)

I am writing to register my support for the Scoop Hill Community Wind Farm.

The scheme:

  • Will contribute to the decarbonisation of our electricity system, increase our security of supply and help meet Scotland’s ambitious climate change targets by generating enough clean green electricity to power the equivalent of 450,000 homes;
  • Has received no objection from the RSPB, NatureScot, SEPA and Historic Environment Scotland;
  • Will provide over £86 million of community benefits (£2.16 million per annum) over the operational lifetime of the wind farm provided to the local communities nearest the wind farm;
  • Will deliver 250 jobs during the construction period and has the support of a number of local businesses who will benefit from Community Windpower’s ‘Buy Scottish’ policy, which gives preference to local Scottish companies for wind farm contracts and ensures the economic investments from the wind farm, stay within the local area and in Scotland.
  • Will provide annual business rates payments of an estimated £5.4 million to Dumfries and Galloway Council, for the 40-year lifetime of the wind farm.

Considering the positive benefits above, please record my support for this proposed development.

Yours faithfully,
